*Groundwater Symposium: A Relational Approach to Supervision
Symposium description: This symposium will provide an opportunity to
explore a relational approach to art therapy supervision. It will
include an emphasis on the sacredness of the art work, the
artist/client and the supervisee. The four quadrants of the medicine
wheel will form the basis of supervision and arts based supervision
methods will be introduced. The symposium will include opening
ceremonies, talking circles, theoretical presentations, art
experientials and different supervision techniques. There will be an
opportunity for participants to bring supervision issues forward to be
work shopped.
The key concept is that the children are at the centre of the circle
?and one must never make any decisions without considering what the
impact on them will be. Everything that is done must focus on
wrapping around the children. The sacred circle approach to
supervision will be fundamental to enhancing cultural sensitivity and
integration of indigenous approaches.
